Summer Scheme Success 09 August 2022 Local children are enjoying weeks of fun and excitement after taking part in the popular summer scheme programme delivered by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council. The ‘Summer in the City’, programme has provided over 2,500 places on summer schemes , swim camps and sports courses across the council’s leisure facilities. Venues include Lagan Valley LeisurePlex, Glenmore Activity Centre, Grove Activity Centre, Kilmakee Activity Centre and Lough Moss Leisure Centre. Throughout the scheme, children have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of activities and sports, suited to different age groups. Sessions are delivered by a team of qualified staff and coaches and include activities such as the Leisure Pool, games, bouncy castle and arts & crafts. Many of the summer schemes also include two out of centre trips each week, providing great value for money as well as additional fun for children. Sports courses are also delivered across the council area and allow children to experience a new sport or progress their interest in a specific area. Swim camps take place at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex and cater from Baby Bubbles to Junior Level, which is an excellent opportunity to accelerate through the lessons programme. Visiting some of the Sports Services summer scheme venues, Chair of the Leisure & Community Development Committee, Councillor Aaron McIntyre said, “The council recognises the valuable support that summer schemes offer busy and working parents over the holidays. The schemes ensure children continue to stay active and promotes a lifestyle of health and physical activity for all ages. The children have had the opportunity to try new sports and make new friendships, all of which helps improve their confidence and social skills particularly when they are off school. “The ‘Summer and the City’ programme caters for children aged 5-14 years and includes an extensive choice of sports and activities to suit everyone. This allows children to enrol on a number of different sessions over the summer and gain a different experience each week. “I hope all the children continue to enjoy the rest of their summer scheme. I look forward to welcoming them back to one of our centres again soon, either visiting with their family or for a future activity scheme”, concluded Councillor McIntyre For more information on activities for children, please visit www.theleisureplex.com
