Nominations Open for Sports Awards 2018 24 September 2018 SPORTS AWARDS RECOGNISES LOCAL TALENT Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh has launched the nomination process for the 2018 Draynes Farm Sports Awards to recognise the wealth of sporting talent and achievements of individuals residing in, and teams based in the Lisburn and Castlereagh area. The Sports Awards scheme is an opportunity to recognise individuals as well as teams excelling within their chosen sport in the past year, whether through direct participation and competition, or through contributions as a coach or administrator. Nomination categories include; Club of the Year, Coach of the Year, Senior Team of the Year, Junior Team of the Year, School of the Year, Junior Sports Personality of the Year and Senior Sports Personality of the Year. There are also Junior and Senior Merit Awards to commend volunteers for their dedication and essential backroom support to their club. Launching the 2018 Draynes Farm Sports Awards, the Chairman of the Council’s Leisure and Community Development Committee, Alderman Paul Porter said, “The Sports Awards is an opportunity each year to publicly commend the wealth of sporting talent we have in Lisburn & Castlereagh. We have a proud history of sporting success with athletes and teams representing the Council area in major competitions, including most recently the Commonwealth Games in Australia and the Special Olympics Ireland Games, which took place earlier in the year. “There are many individuals, teams and volunteers across the Council area who spend many hours training each week in pursuit of excellence in their chosen sport or who have helped others reach their potential by providing valuable technical support and encouragement every step of the way. “The closing date for nominations is Friday 5th October at 12 noon and I would encourage everyone to take the time to nominate an individual, club or school whose achievements might otherwise go unnoticed”, concluded Alderman Porter Jimmy Walker, Chairman of Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh added, “I am delighted that Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh can work in partnership with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council to recognise athletes, teams and coaches at a glittering award ceremony which will take place later in the year. “I would like to thank Draynes Farm for kindly sponsoring the awards and I hope many clubs and individuals will be encouraged to take the time to make a nomination and celebrate the wealth of sporting talent in Lisburn & Castlereagh.” Nominations are welcome from schools, clubs and individuals, residing in the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area. All nominations must be made in writing using the nomination form, which ican be obtained by telephoning 028 9250 9461. The closing date for applications is strictly Friday 5th October at 12 noon.
