Council Launch Children’s Summer Activity Programme 24 May 2022 Children from across Lisburn & Castlereagh are gearing up for a summer of fun as the council’s popular ‘Summer in the City’ programme launches on Monday 6 June at 11am. This year’s programme is jam packed with activity schemes and sports courses to keep children entertained throughout the summer months. It’s the perfect guide for busy parents looking to get their little ones active! The Council’s summer scheme is open to children aged 5 – 14 years and includes; coached activities, games, arts and crafts, bouncy castles and much more. Schemes will be delivered at various facilities across the council area. Children can also try out a new sport with a choice of Gaelic Football, Cricket and even Ice Skating camps! For something that little bit different, there is a Forest School Summer Scheme at Moira Demesne, which is perfect for children with a love of the great outdoors! Launching the programme, Chair of the Leisure & Community Development Committee, Councillor Sharon Skillen said, “The ‘Summer in the City’ programme is a fantastic opportunity for children to fill their summer holidays with a different activity each week. I know many parents eagerly look forward to the launch of the programme to plan in childcare or ensure their kids get out of the house and meet new friends. “Keeping active helps improve our health and mental wellbeing so it is important that children can have fun through our programmes. We hope many will find a love for a new sport or develop a new skill which will inspire a lifetime of physical activity. “I would encourage parents to sign up for ‘Summer in the City’ and make the school holidays one to remember.” The enrolment date for the ‘Summer in the City’ programme commences from Monday 6 June at 11am.
